Mistfall Hunter Tier List — What the Rankings Actually Say

PC / PS5 / Xbox Series X|SGame version: Season 1 (launch), incl. Aug 6 updateVerified: Partially sourced

Bellring Games publishes no tier list, and the three rankings available as of August 11, 2026 conflict: GameSpot (June 17 beta, mixed PvE+PvP) put Sorcerer in S-tier; ProGameGuides (Aug 4, before the Aug 6 patch) put Mercenary and Sorcerer in S-tier; community top-50 leaderboard observations point elsewhere but have methodology flaws. We present them side-by-side as dated snapshots — no merged ranking — anchored to the post-Aug-6 version.

What this page ranks, and for what scopeOfficial

Ranking object: the six launch classes (Withered Knight, Sorcerer, Blackarrow, Seer, Shadowstrix, Mercenary). Scope: overall strength for a typical player — but 'overall' is exactly where every available ranking disagrees, because each mixes Solo/Trio and PvE/PvP differently.

Version anchor: Season 1, after the August 6 live update. That patch adjusted balance for classes including Blackarrow and Withered Knight, and Bellring states tuning will continue. [1] Any tier list published before Aug 6 is a pre-patch snapshot by definition.

No official tier list exists. Patch notes describe balance changes; they are not rankings, and we do not interpret them as one. [1]

Our methodology for this pageOfficial

  • No merged ranking. The three available rankings conflict; combining them into one confident list would hide real disagreements, so we present each as a dated snapshot with its scope. [1]
  • Every entry shows its dimensions: author, publication/update date, patch version, Solo/Trio split, PvE/PvP scope, and stated criteria — the same fields BR-CONTENT-004 requires and the fields most tier lists omit.
  • Pre-Aug-6 sources are labeled pre-patch. GameSpot (6/17) is additionally beta-era, i.e. historical.
  • Community leaderboard data is shown as observation, not ranking, with its methodology flaws stated.
  • Where we synthesize, we say so. Our own read is confined to the clearly labeled editorial-inference callout below and follows the published dimensions there.
  • Re-verification cadence: after every official patch, we re-check the cited sources and update the snapshots and this page's change log. [1]

Dated snapshots, not a merged tier list. 'Not captured' = our source notes record only the headline placements for that ranking; we do not invent the missing rows.

Per-entry reasoning and caveatsThird-partyThird-partyCommunityCommunity

GameSpot (Billy Givens, 2026-06-17) judged all six classes across PvE and PvP combined during the June open beta, placing Sorcerer in S-tier and Shadowstrix in A-tier. This is a historical baseline: it predates launch on July 30 and every launch patch, so its placements describe a game version that no longer exists. [2]

ProGameGuides (Lyssa Chatterton, Sudhanyo Chatterjee, updated 2026-08-04; the article body also carries a July 30 mark) ranks on PvE+PvP performance, solo viability, DPS and team size, placing Mercenary and Sorcerer in S-tier. It is the most current editorial ranking we have — but it was published before the Aug 6 patch, so treat its top tier as pre-patch. [3]

Community top-50 leaderboard observations (r/MistfallHunter, ~2026-08-05) attempt to infer class strength from the class distribution of top-50 leaderboard players. Commenters on that same thread identify the flaws: the board is not split by Solo/Trio, and pick rate plus rating-farming behavior distort the distribution — so it cannot establish win rate or causation. We cite it as a community observation, not a ranking. [4] An older thread asking for the best solo class of the last playtest is player memory only. [5]

Scenario exceptions — where any single tier list breaksOfficialThird-party

  • Solo vs Trio: official posts confirm Solo and Trio are tuned on separate data, so one merged list misrepresents at least one queue. Solo picks are compared on the best solo class page. [1]
  • PvE farming vs PvP fights: a class that clears camps fast is not automatically the class you want when another trio hunts you — see the PvP guide for fight-specific picks.
  • Support value is invisible in solo metrics: Seer looks weak in solo-oriented rankings but fills a role trios actively want — see the Seer build.
  • Gear budget: ProGameGuides' criteria include DPS and team size but any ranking assumes a gear level; budget setups play differently — see the Mercenary build for a low-budget route. [3]
  • September solo mode: the official roadmap plans solo support for Brandrgarde Normal/Cataclysm in September and acknowledges new solo balance challenges — expect reshuffles when it ships. [1]

Our editorial read (clearly labeled inference)

Editorial inference, not a ranking: combining the post-launch signals only (ProGameGuides 8/4, community observations, official patch cadence), Sorcerer is the most consistently strong class across sources, and Mercenary has the best floor for average players — while no source post-dating the Aug 6 patch yet re-tests the classes Bellring adjusted. Method: we weight post-launch over beta sources, penalize the community leaderboard data for its known flaws, and refuse to rank classes where only one snapshot has data. Treat this as a hypothesis to re-test after the next patch, not as fact. [1] [3] [4]

Author, review and re-verificationOfficial

This page is written and source-checked by the site's content team and reviewed against our editorial policy and sources policy. Last verified 2026-08-11 against the post-Aug-6 game version. Because Bellring confirms ongoing balance tuning [1], the next re-verification is scheduled for the next official patch or the September solo-mode launch, whichever comes first; every revision is recorded in the change log below.

FAQ

Is there an official Mistfall Hunter tier list?

No. Bellring Games publishes patch notes, not rankings, and says balance tuning is ongoing. Every tier list online is third-party — this page shows the three available ones as dated snapshots instead of merging them. [1]

Why do the tier lists disagree so much?

They were made for different versions and scopes: GameSpot used the June beta with mixed PvE+PvP; ProGameGuides published Aug 4, before the Aug 6 patch; the community leaderboard data has no Solo/Trio split and pick-rate bias. Version and scope differences, not one correct answer. [2] [3] [4]

What is the best class after the Aug 6 patch?

No post-Aug-6 source has re-tested all classes yet. Our clearly labeled editorial inference: Sorcerer is the most consistently strong across sources and Mercenary has the best floor — to be re-verified after the next patch.
